A Noble Beginning in 2015 -
PEACE CC extends helping hand to disabled students

It was indeed a noble beginning for PEACE CC this year, as it extended valuable help to handicapped students. The brain behind this was Maitri, the dynamic youth of our CC.
Last month, during our meeting, Maitri Tanna, an active youth member of PEACE CC (Multiregion) came up with an innovative idea of mass collection of old newspapers, old paper boxes and selling them to earn some money and use the money to help two handicapped students attending school. She wanted to begin the New Year with a noble cause. As the old papers goes for recycling in a way this also helps towards environment cause, she said.
In the past, she had visited the private school which provides education only for handicapped students. The school would receive help from public/people given in kind in terms of sponsoring the fees for students, donating food items, vegetables, books etc. The school takes special care in making students learn various activities, make them study, learn cooking, drawing etc.
She planned the activity very meticulously. During first week of January 2015, she campaigned vigorously in her residential complex and visited several of her relatives. She circulated a pamphlet to all the houses in her society saying she would be collecting their newspapers to be used for a good cause. She briefly explained what the cause is about. She stated, those who are interested can hand over their old newspapers to her as she visits them. So, for one full week, she became actively involved in old newspaper collection drive. She collected around 75 kgs of papers.
At the end of it, she received encouraging feedback from her residential society.
One of them told her,
“You need not ask us if you can come to collect the newspapers. Just come directly!!”
Another asked,
“Are we continuing the work ahead? If so then we will keep the newspapers piled in coming months too!”
When the money collected was used in sponsoring the education for two students for a month, the schoolteachers were very thankful. They were extremely happy that such a good activity was done to help their children. They encouraged this activity. The teachers instructed the students to thank Maitri for helping them. All the students collectively thanked her, which was a very special moment. She spent valuable time with the students.
Maitri derived immense satisfaction through this service. She said, 'It feels great to do a good deed. The satisfaction achieved in helping the environment and the society is unmatchable.'
She sends her message to all, 'So let us all go for it!! If we all can conduct such a good activity in our own residential or workplace, imagine the number of students or needy that will be provided help by us , imagine the benefit which we will contribute for the environment.'
