“Many Faiths – One Planet” was the rallying message on Sunday, June 28, when about 5,000 participants of many faiths, religions, traditions, cultures, and communities joined to march together in Rome. The march was a positive response to the Pope’s recent release of his groundbreaking encyclical on the necessity for responsible environmental stewardship, as well as an affirmation that the world needs to focus on social justice and ending poverty. The crowd embraced the unity of “One Earth, One Human Family” as diverse people gathered in unison to thank Pope Francis for his message and to proclaim their support of protecting the planet that all humans share.
Present at the historic march were Kiran Bali MBE JP, URI Global Council Trustee Chair, and Sarah Queblatin, of Maia Earth Village Cooperation Circle and Mandala Earth Story Project Cooperation Circle. Along with carrying the banner, Kiran Bali led the crowd with Hindu opening words and chanting. Along with thousands of people, the URI representatives marched from St Peter's square to the Vatican where Pope Francis addressed everyone and expressed his support.
