Our visit to the site for the construction of Academy of Light in Mbetazigone was very successful. We started off at about 8.30 am from the Bishop's house with a prayer and went to collect Barnabe Welo. Because of the worsening condition of the road it took us almost one hour to get to Mbetazigone village.
We bypassed the site for the Academy to go to the village headman, where we wanted to pick him up to accompany us to the site. About five hundred meters away from the site, along the road, we saw the village headman with his people on the site, which he offered the women for their Cultural Food Kitchen construction. Since today was the day Neema had agreed with the women to start their work on the Cultural Food Kitchen, both the Bishop and the director were very much amazed to see men and women busy breaking the ground for the molding of bricks to start upon our arrival. It was hands akimbo and mouth agape for both the Bishop and the director to see the hardworking villagers working on this new site. The director thought that these people had already received a donation, but I explained to him that there was nothing up-front yet. People will start with the resources they have.
Barnabe Welo introduced the people in the group to the Bishop and vice-versa. Then the director also gave a few remarks. This sparked contributions of ideas towards the projects of the cultural kitchen and the academy. One of the contributions was to also consider boarding for those who will be participating in the courses in the project, as it appears it will attract people from faraway communities. The other issue which boiled so hot was the need to have Michael visit Mozambique as soon as possible. I assured them that this will happen soon. After some time of discussion, Barnabe Welo asked the Bishop if we could have a family photo.
After the photo we went to the site for the Academy. At the site, in the presence of the Bishop, we measured the size of the land. As you can see from the pictures, the director got involved in the measuring of the land. The size of the land is 100m X 500m. After measuring, the Bishop asked the village headman and his counselors to write a document that will stipulate that the land has been kindly given for the Academy of Light activities. This is the document which will be used for any legal processes. Thereafter we started off our trip back to the city. While in the car, the director asked Barnabe Welo to narrate how it all happened to reach up to this stage. The Bishop was amazed over this development.
We are now looking forward to his support letter.
