Niassa province is the biggest province in Mozambique. There is vast land, much forest, and people live sparsely. Thus, there are communities that are very difficult to reach and have not been developed. Medication is scarce and education is difficult. There are few schools, where most of them have no teaching materials. There are many orphans as a result of AIDS, and some people do not even understand that it exists. There is also the issue of language barriers: there is a dominance of Portuguese in most areas but some communities have their own languages. To tackle these issues, Missao da Misericódia Abranjente em Moçambique (MIMAMO) came up with some proposals for improvement which members have written in their constitution. Their work strives to address health, the aftermath of natural disasters like flooding, improved roads and water access, and political instability. This Cooperation Circle (CC) invites communities that have been torn by religious diversity and challenges to combine their efforts in improving circumstances, such as: feeding the hungry; nurturing the needy; addressing drug and alcohol addiction; providing sexual and health education; and giving assistance to marginalized sectors of the community like orphans and the elderly. Adult literacy and children education are also development priorities for this CC.
