URI Multiregion group CARAVAN partnered with The Ahliyyah School for Girls (under the leadership of Senator Haifa Najjar) in order to develop the educational component for youth around the I AM exhibition. I AM is an art exhibition featuring the work of 31 premier Middle Eastern women artists from 12 countries of Muslim and Christian background, visually celebrating the rich, diverse and pivotal contribution that Middle Eastern women make to the enduring global quest for harmony and peace.
The artwork provides a starting point for discussion and interaction, serving as a creative and entertaining way to introduce youth to the subjects of gender equality, cultural diversity, intercultural and interreligious understanding, and the need for peace.
The educational program focuses on teenage girls in both public and private schools. Through a series of field visits and associated workshops around I AM, the exhibition’s themes are explored – i.e. women's contribution to peace, interreligious harmony (Christian and Muslim), as well as how they see the future and the role they themselves expect to play and opportunities they hope for.
"The girls were were so positive, excited, and extremely appreciative . . . and I strongly believe that the exhibition left an impact on them,” said Hanan Khalil, an art teacher at the Ahliyyah School for Girls in Amman.
