Mujeres Kunas Artesanas (Mukua) Cooperation Circle, a URI member group in Panama, is raising awareness on the International Day of Awareness about Albinism, which is celebrated annually on June 13. Nini Wilson, an active group member, has worked for many years for the recognition and vindication of people who are albino like her and who, in their Guna culture, are called, "children of the moon" and considered a great blessing for their families. The Guna Yala region in Panama has one of the world’s highest rates of albino births. The group members seek to “end stigma and false beliefs about a disease where superstition and fanaticism have no place.”
