Cooperation Circles from URI Latin America and the Caribbean celebrated this year's International Day of Peace with the theme: "Recover to Improve and Create a World of Fairness and Sustainability."
Every year, on September 21, International Day of Peace is celebrated around the world. The UN General Assembly declared this date as the day dedicated to strengthening the ideals of peace, through the observation of 24 hours of nonviolence and ceasefire.
This year, it became clearer than ever that we are not each other's enemies. Instead, our common enemy is a virus that threatens our health, safety and lifestyle. COVID-19 brought our world into turmoil and reminded us by force that what happens on one part of the planet can affect people everywhere.
This year, several Latin America and the Caribbean Cooperation Circles joined the celebration of the International Day of Peace with the theme: "Recover to Improve and Create a World of Fairness and Sustainability." The Cooperation Circles marked this occasion by spreading compassion, kindness and hope during the pandemic through actions carried involving children, young people, women and scholars from each of their localities. This special edition of the URI Latin America and the Caribbean Newsletter rightly honors this diversity and their particular efforts, and we are proud to share it with the world.
