URI Individual Members are an amazing addition of people who are driven by the love for peaceful, harmonious, and thriving communities. Here is their celebration of Golden Rule Day.
URI Individual Members are an amazing addition of people who are driven by the love for peaceful, harmonious, and thriving communities. On the occasion of the Golden Rule Day, URI Individual Members from across regions met to explore how they can contribute to the Golden Rule; Treating others and the planet as they would love to be treated, and also learning more about the program.
In 2007, URI-Africa and Interfaith Peace-building Initiative (a URI Cooperation Circle member) declared April 5 as “Golden Rule Day” in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. They called upon all citizens of the world and many other organizations, including the United Nations, to join them in proclaiming the day and living every day according to the teaching of the Golden Rule that aims at making our world better and more peaceful for all.
On 14th April 2022, 15 URI individual members from 9 countries met on the occasion of Golden Rule Day.
This was an opportunity to meet the new Individual Membership Coordinator and fellow URI Individual Members, as well as, to explore how they can practice compassion by treating others and the planet as we would like to be treated.
It was a great pleasure that Mussie Hailu URI Director of Global Partnerships, URI Representative at the UN and the African Union, URI-Africa Regional Director, and Former Ambassador joined the meeting.
“The Golden Rule calls us to extend our concern beyond ourselves and to embrace a greater understanding and respect for all life forms.’’ Mussie Hailu.
Also in attendance was the URI Acting Executive Director, Biff Barnard who joined the meeting to welcome URI individual members and share more information about the program.
