URI Story Spotlight

Last Sunday, Bishop William Swing, Founding Trustee and President Emeritus, delivered a sermon at Grace Cathedral, in San Francisco.

In his words: "Next week, we will elect a president of the United States. Among the myriad responsibilities that go with the office, none is of greater magnitude than the use of nuclear weapons."

Between August and September 2021, the URI AL&C Online Youth Training organized by the URI Global Program for the participation of youth was developed with the intervention of 15 young people from the CCs: Aflaiai, Constructores de Puentes, Teusaquillo, Mukua, Quinaroes , COEMATI, The Descendants of Guatemaya, Samay, ACRE from the countries: Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Panama and Venezuela.

URI remains alarmed by the escalation of violence between Israel and Hamas & expresses grave concern for the civilians on the ground.

We give and receive hospitality

URI’s sixth principle reads “We give and receive hospitality.” Welcoming the stranger among us is not just a URI concept; it is a core human value that transcends cultures, nationalities, faiths and spiritual expressions. It affects Muslim, Jews, Christians, Hindus, Buddhists and Sikhs alike, and underlies much of the economic pressures and interreligious tensions facing our communities today. And as such, immigration needs be made central to the interfaith agenda.

Stopping the Islamization of Europe?

In the 17th century, the logical conclusion to interreligious conflict was holy war. A handful of extremists would argue for that conclusion today. But for most of us, violence in the name of God, any God, is not an answer, it is a blasphemy. But if the point is not to take up arms in the cause of exclusive righteousness, then what can people do to cope with the very real changes happening in their communities?

Vivian Baraguir facilitates the Adopt A school of Peace Project

ADOPT A SCHOOL OF PEACE PROJECT- is an intercultural and Interfaith Community Project where seven elementary schools will be given three component projects such as 1.) Training on Healthy Preparation of Snacks for Mothers; 2.) Culture of Peace Training for Teachers and 3.) Convergence of Services where each recipient school will receive free medical missions/medicines, bags, seedlings, feeding and tree planting. The source of funds is the Goldin Institute, Chicago and materialized by the Goldin Institute, Philippines and other partners of different offices in the ARMM like DepEd, DSWD, DTI, DOH, DA, 6th ID Phil. Army, Local Givernment Units and the PYLP8-Adult Leader.
